The “.florida” Community Domains
Certain “.florida” domain names will be of special value to the Floridian community: The so called “community relevant domain names” like “www.miami.florida“, “www.visit.florida” or “www.police.florida“. The “.com” approach to community relevant domains -first come first serve- wouldn’t serve the Floridian community well: “hotels.florida” owned by one hotel group or “realestate.florida” by one reator would mean a huge benefit for the respective domain owner (lot’s of visitors on their website) but wouldn’t create any sizeable “added value” for the community of Floridian internet users.
Community relevant “.florida” domain names should be put to a better use for the community.
Hence a certain number of community relevant domain names (a few thousand) will not be available for registration but instead directly operated by the “.florida”-registry in order to promote certain entities like government institutions or business associations in the top third of the landing page, while the main part of the landing page would be a directory for all keyword related .florida domains.
While the top third part of the landing page of hotels.florida may be used by the Florida Hotel & Lodging Association the main section would be a listing of all hotel-related .florida domains searchable by location.
