The “.florida” concept
In spring 2012 ICANN introduced new generic Top-Level-Domains (TLD’s, domainsuffixes) such as “.shop“, “.gay“, “.paris” or “.sport“. Domains like “www.shoe.shop“, “www.hotels.paris” or “www.football.sport” will become available: The domainsiffix will have a semantic value.
Currently about 220 countries worldwide operate their own “country code Top-Level-Domain” (ccTLD); for example .de, .uk, .fr, .ca.
Population-wise 75% and economy-wise (GDP) 92% of all countries in the world are smaller than Florida. With a population of 18 Million and it’s $US 760 Billion GDP the State of Florida has the ideal size and importance for an own identity on the Internet: “.florida”.
“.florida” domains will be open for usage to anyone: Businesses, individuals, organizations and of course for the government. Whether it’s “www.google.florida“ for Florida related searches, “www.starbucks.florida“ for everything Florida in Starbucks, “www.miami.florida“ for the great city or simply “www.captainmiller.florida“ for a small business on the Keys: A new, unspoiled land in the Internet: Only for Floridians!
